Grub Burger | Plano, Tx

Hello Foodies

This review has been awhile in the making and I'm incredibly excited to do this review. I had a mixed review on my first time going so I wanted to be fair and try it again at a different time of day.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Sometimes walking into a new restaurant can be a little confusing. This is the case with Grub Burger, as it's not set up to direct you towards the registers. When I first walked in I didn't know exactly where to go, because you first walk into the bar and it hides the registers in the very back. However, within seconds I was greeted by an employee with a menu. The employees are very friendly and are happy to help, but it can be hard to miss them. Right now it's a getting colder outside and with their casual attire they blend in with everyone else. Normally this wouldn't be ok with me because employees can hide that way and not help, but these employees make sure you know they are there and ready to help. The service at the register and around the restaurant is excellent but the bartenders are not as friendly, especially when your not ordering a drink. It's unfortunate that the bartenders seem a little stuck up because it drops the rating down to 4 Foodie Forks, for what would of been a full 5 without.

Food

The food here upon first glance isn't anything special, it's just another burger shop. Grub doesn't seem to hide behind gimmicks or really strange names to get your attention. Don't let this fool you though, the food here is really quite special. The burger is nice and juicy with a good presentation, but unfortunately is one of the weaker items. This is not to say the burgers aren't delicious, they are and definitely a place to come back to, but there are so many better things here.

What really shines at Grub are the cheese fries and chicken tenders. Cheese fries have become one of my favorite foods, but also something that can be priced quite high for very little taste. Here at Grub Burger you may pay a premium for the cheese fries, but you get a very generous amount of fries. Even more impressive you get a generous amount of cheese. The flavor of the cheese and their house fries play really well together, the cheese is perfectly melted and just pulls apart. At least in my experience, you won't find a fry without cheese. Your fries will also come with other things like bacon and peppers. The peppers can be done without, but the bacon is crunchy, fresh, and nice large chunks just put the whole plate over the top. I would definitely recommend the cheese fries to anyone going as a must have.

To wash down all that cheesy deliciousness, you'll need a drink. As the majority of the restaurant is a giant bar, I ordered a specialty drink that came in a cool slanted glass. Overall the drink was underwhelming, overpriced, and quite watered down. This could of coarse just been a one time thing, but lack of alcohol and flavor mixed with the bland bartender service left a bad taste. The bartender dropped off the drink and left without a thank you, hope you enjoy, nothing, it was rather cold.

The other item that shines is the chicken tenders. I'm actually rather picky with my chicken, I don't like it too tough, too chewy, I want it to pull apart softly. I have never been to a location that makes their chicken quite like Grub. The chicken is so soft and airy, the only crunch you get is from the breading and its excellent. The breading is well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The chicken just pulls apart easily as you eat it, you'll never find a chewy piece, or a tender you don't like. I honestly believe the chicken tenders should be the focused item on the menu.

Overall I would say to give the burgers a try if that's what your craving. But if your up in the air about what you want, ALWAYS order the chicken tenders and cheese fries. I have to state that this place is perfect for relaxing with a couple friends while enjoying delicious food.

Thank you again,

Your Local Foodie

PS : take a look at the shakes and give them a try, they are truly unique and delicious, not much more I can say about that.
